ABOUT US
Global environmental challenges such as climate change, environmental degradation, increasing pressure on natural resources, and rapid socio-economic transformation are becoming increasingly complex and interconnected. These dynamics affect spatial systems, urban development patterns, water and marine resources, as well as ecosystem sustainability at multiple scales. Addressing these challenges requires not only effective environmental policies and technological innovation but also strong, adaptive, and spatially informed human resources. Human resources therefore play a crucial role in promoting sustainable practices, strengthening institutional and governance capacity, supporting integrated water resources management, and ensuring equitable and responsible utilization of environmental resources.
The Faculty of Geography, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta, Indonesia, particularly the Department of Environmental Geography has long been committed to advancing research and academic collaboration in environmental resource management. This commitment encompasses various fields, including human geography and spatial planning, sustainable urban development under the New Urban Agenda framework, natural resources and disaster management, environmental sciences and climate change, marine and coastal management, ecosystem and tropical lake management, as well as water governance and equity for sustainable development.
As part of this commitment, the Faculty will organize the 7th International Conference on Environmental Resources Management in Global Region (ICERM).
The conference will be held on May 19th, 2026 at the Faculty of Geography, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The theme of the 7th ICERM 2026 is “Human Resources Management for Sustainability”
